About G*Power

What follows is based on an article that appeared in Behavior Research Methods, Instruments, & Computers. Thus, the correct reference to what you can read on the pages which you can reach from here is:

Erdfelder, E., Faul, F., & Buchner, A. (1996). G*Power: A general power analysis program. Behavior Research Methods, Instruments, & Computers, 28, 1-11.

What follows is divided into four different sections.

  1. The first section summarizes rather briefly a few of the more important points you might want to know about G*Power. Specifically, it describes
    1. what G*Power can and cannot do for you,
    2. the intention of the authors,
    3. hard and software requirements, and
    4. the availability of the program.

  2. The second section deals with the state of affairs with respect to statistical power analyses.
  3. The third section answers the question why we developed G*Power and describes in a bit more detail what the program can do for you.
  4. In the fourth and last section you find some information about the algorithms used in G*Power.

In this electronic document, we dropped a few paragraphs relative to the printed version (e.g., those about the program handling which we deal with in the user interface section. Brackets [...] indicate where we dropped text.
